Jasper stores your customer information in a database. You can have multiple databases for
storing
different sets of customers. For example, if you run more than one business.
The database/s are stored on your device, NOT on a server. If your device is lost or you
delete
the file, your customer data will be lost too. Therefore, it is important to use the Jasper
backup feature
to keep your data safe.
On Android, your database/s are stored in Jasper's application storage. This means Jasper does
not require any special access to your device to work.
⚠️ However, if you uninstall Jasper, its application storage, containing your databases,
will be deleted with it.
Jasper's backup feature makes it easy to keep your data safe.
Desktop (Windows, Linux)
On desktop, you can store and open a Jasper database anywhere on your device.
Each database is a folder, containing all customer information within it.
Customers
The core purpose of Jasper is to store customer details. Each customer record has fields where you can

Tags
Each customer can also have associated tags.
You can use tags to group customers into easily searchable groups. This is great for grouping
customers that:
purchase a certain product
want to be contacted when a new product is released.
The tag edit window shows all created tags. You can enable/disable tags for a customer
with
the check boxes.
To create a new tag, type the tag name into the search bar, and press create.
Editing a tag's name field will apply the name change to all customers with that tag.

disabled.
All tags place on a customer will show at the top of their page.

Reminders
Reminders are used to keep track of tasks related to customers.
Each reminder contains a title, extra text and a due date for the customer it is associated with.
Upcoming reminders for all customers are shown in the reminders view, sorted by due date.
When you complete a reminder, tick the actioned box to mark it as done. It will disappear after
eight hours.
Reminders that are due today are shown in red.
Reminders that have already been completed are shown in blue.
Click or tap on a reminder to open its attached customer.
⚠️ Reminders are only shown inside Jasper. They DO NOT notify you or appear when the app
isn't open.

Backups
Jasper databases are stored on your device - if your device is damaged, corrupted, or you
accidentally delete the database, you will lose your data.
This risk is easily mitigated with Jasper backups.
As a Jasper user, you are responsible for keeping your data safe.
You can manually create a backup with the "Create a backup" button in the side menu.

Backups are NOT encrypted, so ensure you keep the files secure.
Backup frequency
When you create a new database, you will be asked how often you want to backup (this can always be
changed later in "Database settings").
To decide on the best backup frequency, think of the maximum number of days worth of file changes
you would be comfortable
losing.
If you are entering critical customer data reguarly, you may want to backup every day or
weekly.
If you only change your database twice a month, you may be happy only backing up
monthly.
Where to store backups
When you create a backup, you will be prompted for a location and name to save the file.
We very strongly advise against
storing it on the same device as your database.
Some possible backup locations include:
Google Drive
One Drive
A USB stick (or similar), kept in a safe location
Restoring from a backup
You can import a backup file by pressing "Import database" and selecting the
previously backed-up file.
You will be asked for a name (and, on desktop, a location for the new database) - this name will be given to the restored Jasper database.
