File attachments

This feature is currently not available on Android.

File attachments allow you to link as many files as you wish on your computer to a customer. You can then access and open these files by pressing the attached files button.

You should keep all files you attach within a documents or similar folder. That way, if you change computer, they can all be located easily thanks to relative paths.

Relative/base path

The relative path is the folder all your attachments are stored with respect to. As long as your files stay in the same place relative to that location, Jasper can keep track of attachments.

  • Attaching a file at C:\MyUserName\Documents\document.pdf and then moving to a new computer.

  • On your new computer the document could now be in a different location. Eg C:\BusinessDocs\document.pdf

  • Your file link is now broken!

Solution

Jasper makes this easy to fix. When you attach files, their location is stored relative to a folder you specify. In the above example, the relative path on your old computer would have been C:\MyUserName\Documents\. On your new computer, you would change it to C:\BusinessDocs\.

Jasper only needs to store the location with respect to the relative path for the attachment. When swapping to a new computer, you only need to change the relative path in Database Settings and your attachments can be found again.

  • The file locations given here are examples only, they will depend on where you store documents that you want to attach.

What to set relative location to?

You should set the relative path to something that will not move in relation to your file attachments. If you are attaching things in your documents folder, you should set the relative path to be your documents folder.
